Koenegstein was second in his preliminary heat Thursday, May 28 with a time of 15.59 which qualified him to advance to the State Finals competition Saturday, May 30th. He finished 8th overall out of nine runners, all but three of whom were seniors. Koenegstein finished second out of the three junior competitors. His time of 15.71 was not his best of the season but good enough to earn him the title of being the 8th-best 110-meter hurdler in the State of Illinois at the 2009 State meet. Koenegstein's goal for 2009 was to make the finals at State and he certainly accomplished that goal and surpassed it by finishing 8th overall. Last year as a sophomore he finished 23rd overall, thusly bettering his position among Illinois high school hurdlers by 15 positions. Chad will run for the Yellow Jackets next year as a senior and has hopes of improving his time and finish at the 2010 State Meet. He is the son of Bob and Pat Koenegstein of Chester, Illinois.
