Boys Prep Track: Tribe Strong in Final State Tune-Up
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ In its final tune-up before the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 1A Sectional, Du Quoin High School's Boys Track and Field team continued its steady course of improvement.
The Indians were third in the Jared Morris Invitational at Nashville, finishing behind just the host squad and Sparta in the 16-team event while capturing first place finishes in three events.
Senior Trevor Hoffman rewrote two existing DHS records to again sweep the hurdle events-while running the opening leg on Du Quoin's first place 4x400 Meter Relay.
Strong second place finishes came from Karson Hoffman (400 Meters, 52.1) ) and the 4x100 Meter Relay.
"Trevor Hoffman continues to have just a great year and set several records in the hurdles today," Indians coach Al Martin said.
"This was a competitive meet and great tune-up for the sectional. Our relays were very good today and continue to show improvement."
T. Hoffman's 14.8 effort in the 110 High Hurdles erased Uriah Porter's two year-old school mark.
A blazing 38.75 300 Intermediate effort lowered T. Hoffman's exisiting school record and also set new meet and Nashville stadium standards.
In the 4x400, T. Hoffman and K. Hoffman were joined by James Williams (3:31) as the Indians pulled away to win against a strong field.
T. Hoffman, Rose, Jamor Reed and David Gayton also posted a season's best time in the 4x100 Relay (44.8) to finish second.
Rose, Reed, Blake Hester and David Gayton (1:34.6) placed fourth in the 4x200 Meter Relay with K. Hoffman also fourth among Triple Jump entries.
Sophomore Brock Morgenstern completed Du Quoin's scoring by winning a fifth place medal in the Discus.
"We are really starting to come together at the right time," Martin said. "Our times have been consistently getting better and better. This is the time of year when you want to start peaking and we are getting close."
Friday afternoon, Du Quoin travels to the Chester Sectional. Field events begin at 3:30 with prelimary running events starting 45 minutes later.
