BOYS TRACK&FIELD: Hoffman Shatters another Record

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin High School senior Trevor Hoffman rewrote the 26 year-old record in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles at Benton's Chuck Oyler Invitational Wednesday afternoon.

Hoffman-barely a week after shattering the DHS mark-ran to first place in a 39.3 clocking to highlight a fifth place finish for the Tribe.

Trevor's sophomore brother, Karson, had the only other gold medal showing, winning the 400 Meters in a career-best time of 51.0.

Nashville (145) and Sparta (111) dominated the 15-team affair with West Frankfort (97), Herrin (74.5) and Du Quoin (57) completing the top five. Pinckneyville had 11 points, good enough for 10th place.

"Overall this wasn't a great meet for us," Indians coach Al Martin said. "We had some problems with our relay teams. But we did have some great personal best efforts individually and continue to show a lot of improvement."

Karson Hoffman (41'0) posted a season's best to finish second in the Triple Jump. Blake Hester (16.1) did the same and placed third among 110 Meter High Hurdle entries.

Freshman Cayle Diggins didn't place in a highly-competitive Pole Vault field, but did record a personal best of 11'0.

T. Hoffman's effort shattered the exisiting meet record in the low hurdles by nearly half a second. He also ran a 50 second split to leadoff Du Quoin's 4x400 Meter Relay team.

"Once again Trevor and Karson Hoffman had just great days," Martin said. "For Trevor to break the meet record here is quite an accomplishment. We were just a little out of synch with our relays and in a competitive meet like this, that can really catch up with you."

Nathan Morton (19'9) had Pinckneyville's top individual effort, takin third place in the Long Jump.

Friday afternoon, Du Quoin hosts its annual "Frosh-Soph Little Classic" at Van Metre Field. Saturday, the varsity squad returns to the Harrisburg Invitational. The Indians won the Harrisburg title in 2007 and were a close second last year to Class 3A Marion.
