LOCAL SPORTS RADIO: Cubs Baseball on WDQN-AM this Summer

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ The sounds of summer-at least in Perry County and the immediate area-will include a few new voices on the local airwaves.

WDQN-AM, the "Big 1580" in Du Quoin, recently joined the Chicago Cubs Radio Network and will broadcast upwards of 130 games between now and late September.

"We are proud to be the new Southern Illinois home for Cubs baseball," WDQN Station Manager Greg Showalter said.

"We counted them up the other day and it will probably total a little over 130 games that we'll carry. It's a good deal for us, our listeners and our advertising clients also."

Showalter emphasized that WDQN will also continue a 20-plus year tradition of broadcasting most NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events.

Some Cub games could be pre-empted because of NASCAR coverage, mostly on Sunday afternoons.

Pat Hughes and Ron Santo are back in the booth to describe all the 2009 season action.

Cubs Central Pre-game show begins 35 minutes before the first pitch. "The Lou Piniella Show" and "The Sportswire" are also part of the broadcast package.
