Low Voter Turnout

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ The turnout was low at the outset of voting this morning.

As of April 6, only 217 ballots had been cast through early and absentee voting. By comparison, over 900 people exercised the early and absentee voting options before the Nov. 2 election.

Perry County has approximately 14,500 registered voters and County Clerk Kevin Kern is hopeful that a significant portion of them will take the time to vote today. "There hasn't been as much interest as in previous elections," Kern said.

"But, I think there is more interest today than there was two weeks ago. I'm hopeful that the weather will cooperate." Voters are asked to elect school board members and village representatives April 7. Kern said that additional interest may have been sparked by school board candidates campaigning.
