Coulterville Unit District #1 school board meets
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[A special School Board Hearing was held at 7:00 PM for Modification of School Code 105ILCS 5/24-2 Holidays. This modification would allow the schools in the district to commemorate Lincoln's birthday by offering appropriate instruction on that date. The school dismissal that has traditionally been mandated to occur on Lincoln's birthday will be on President's Day. One individual and one teacher in attendance - no comments.
Monthly School Board meeting:
Motion passed for Modification of School Code 105ILCS 5/24-2 Holidays. Application to be sent to the State Board of Education for approval.
Certificate of deposit for $4,442.64 (First State Bank of Campbell Hill) matured on 02/11/2009. Board approved renewal of certificate at 2/72% for 15 months.
Notice of two additional Special School Board Meetings:
Purpose - To interview prospective teacher candidates for the High School math position, the High School science position, the High School English position, and the Elementary Special Ed position. These meetings will be held in closed session and are scheduled for February 23rd and February 26th (5:00PM) in the district administration office.

Board motion to place $100,000 from Illinois Funds earning less than 1% into a CD earning 2.75%.
Special thank you to Cortnie Ruppert for the Alumni Volleyball Tournament. It was an exceptional day and everyone had a wonderful time. A group photo is in the process of being enlarged and will be displayed in the school.
Hall of Fame nominations due to the district office by March 12. The recipient of this award will be the guest speaker at High School Graduation & have his/her photo & vita placed on permanent display in the school. This award is given to those who have made a significant contribution to one or more of the following areas: Academics, Athletics and Fine Arts. Criteria for being considered for this award - Staff member that has not been employed at Coulterville School District #1 a minimum of three years or students graduated from Coulterville High School for a minimum of five years. Anyone wishing to submit a nomination may acquire a nomination form at the district office.
Security system - two cameras have malfunctioned; thus, required replacement. The exterior camera will be enhanced to include a greater visual area; thus, providing the office with a better view of who is at the front entrance.
Gym roof damage resulted from the last ice storm. Repairs resulted in the replacement of exhaust pipes from the gym heaters.
Coulterville School (Jr. High & High School) will be included in the National Science Foundation Grant application through Yerkes Observatory, Williams Bay, Wisconsin. If approved, this will allow our students to join schools throughout Wisconsin in a series of aerospace learning activities designed to broaden the understanding of astronomy. They will be meeting and working with not only professional astronomers, but also NASA scientists.
