SIJHSAA Class L State Update: DMS Warriors back in final four

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Saturday afternoon, Du Quoin (Middle School) again advanced into the trophy round of the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association (SIJHSAA) Class L State Tournament.

The Warriors, 19-3, defeated Carbondale (Junior High School) 48-32 at Rend Lake College and will play undefeated Carlyle (25-0) at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals.

Carlyle rocked Olney 56-30 Saturday. Harrisburg handled Trico 62-34 and Mt. Vernon won 53-38 over Collinsville in the other quarterfinal games. Harrisburg and Mt. Vernon tip-off in the 6 o'clock semi Tuesday. The championship and third place games are set for Wednesday.

DMS slowly pulled away from the Cougars, opening a 26-20 lead by intermission. Five three-point hoops- three from Nate Boss and two more by Brenden Fred-pushed the Warriors ahead.

Leading 35-28 to start the final seven minutes, Du Quoin's defense went to work and limited Carbondale to just one field goal and a pair of free tosses. The DMS advantage twice reached 20 points down the stretch.

Boss was top scorer with 15 points. Austin Mansker netted 12 and Fred finished with eight.
