Red Bud dominates Trenton-Wesclin in grudge match
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Red Bud Musketeers had a phenomenal game against the Trenton-Wesclin Warriors on Friday, Jan. 30. The Musketeers hit the Warriors hard, in a grudge match, with a final score of 72-38. "We were really pleased with our performance on Friday night," said Head Coach Dave Gillingham, "Considering Wesclin had beaten us in Red Bud back in December." The Musketeers are 16-7 in their overall record with a 2-4 conference record.
The Musketeers came out swinging in the first, taking the lead by 3-points. They hit for 19-points allowing 16 in. "After giving up 15-points in the first period, we only allowed twenty-two the rest of the game," said Gillingham, "Our defense was tremendous."
In the second, the Musketeers increased their lead by 10-points, with a half-time tally of 33-23. They hit for 14-points in the second quarter.
In the third, the Musketeers kept on increasing their lead by more and more, hitting for 14-points again. The score at the end of the quarter was 47-33.
The Musketeers turned up the heat in the final eight minutes of game play. The fourth gave the Musketeers 25-points, their game high. With the final buzzer, the Musketeers sent the Warriors home with their tails between their legs, taking the game by 34-points. The Musketeers walked away with a final score of 72-38. "Offensively we were very patient and executed well," said Gillingham, "Which showed in our 25 for 51 shooting an four players in the double digits."
Adam Kunkel, 1, led the team with 17-points. Kunkel hit six inside shots and one long ranging arc-er while hitting two of three from the charity stripe. He passed for three assists and zero turnovers. Gillingham said, "Adam led us in scoring... which included some excellent drives."
Kory Liefer, 11, brought in 13-points in one field goal, one 3-pointer, and five of seven successful attempts from the foul line. He shot off four assists and stole five balls while snagging three defensive rebounds.
Tim Conway, 23, and Chance Albertson, 32, each hit for 11-points. Conway hit three field goals and one long range bomber while hitting two of two from the line. Albertson hit one field goal, two from beyond the arc and three of three from the line. "Tim played with great energy," said Gillingham.
Dan Shrader, 4, and Jake Hoffman, 5, each brought home 7-points. Shrader hit two inside and one outside. Hoffman also hit two inside shots and drilled one from outside the twenty-foot mark in the Hoffman style. Gillingham said, "Jake had another solid game off the bench."
Kollin Liefer, 10, stepped up to bang in 4-points. He also passed over one assist and had one steal.
"I would say that this game was one of the better efforts we've had in my three years here," Gillingham said, "It was a good team victory."
