CHS cheerleaders heading to state

<span>The Chester High School cheerleaders are heading to the state competition in Bloomington after finishing fifth at Saturday's IHSA Troy Triad Sectional.</span>

<span>The Yellow Jackets finished with a team score of 76.30. Breese Central took the sectional title with a score of 84.17, followed by Carterville (83.03), Carlyle (79.03), Pinckneyville (78.17) and Chester.</span>

<span>The CHS cheerleaders are Elizabeth Heffernan, Ellen Blechle, Emily Atchison, Kendra Martinez, Allison Kennon, Ashley Hennrich, Kamryn Wingerter, Faye Hathaway, Kayla Hasemeyer, Cara Childs and Karson Colvis.</span>

<span>The 12-team sectional also included Du Quoin, Anna-Jonesboro, Breese Mater Dei, Goreville, Sesser-Valier, Trenton Wesclin and New Athens.</span>

<span>Chester advances to U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington for the state competition next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5-6. The IHSA randomly assigned a letter code (A through E) prior to the start of the state series, with Troy Triad being assigned the letter B.</span>

<span>According to the IHSA, each team's performance order within its lettered division at the state tournament is determined by the place the team takes at each sectional tournament.</span>
