GIRLS BASKETBALL: Centralia ends Lady Warriors' season at State
The Lady Warriors' post-season run was halted by Centralia at Saturday's SIJHSAA Class L state quarterfinals, as Du Quoin couldn't overcome a 17-5 first quarter put on them by the Tigerettes in a 47-30 final.
DMS struggled to contain Centralia's Caprice Maines, who scored ten of her game-high 24 points in the first quarter, where the Tigerettes did most of their damage.
After trailing by fourteen at the end of the third quarter, the Lady Warriors closed to within nine on a steal and layup by Katie Smith with 4:10 to play, but Du Quoin could get no closer.
Chloe Hill had thirteen points to lead Du Quoin in scoring. Smith finished with nine, Ashlynn Jackson had five, Olivia Whitley two and Bailey Harsy one. Morgan Bullar and Maddison Dorsey also saw action for the Lady Warriors.
Centralia moves on to Tuesday's first semifinal against Fulton (O'Flannon). Hamilton County and Highland face off in the other semifinal matchup.
