CROSS COUNTRY: Personal bests not enough for PCHS at State
Despite several personal-best times, the Pinckneyville Panthers were outmatched at Saturday's Cross Country State Finals in Peoria, finishing 25th in the team standings with Layton McNew's 127th place showing the best for PCHS.
McNew was 93rd among runners on a competing team and finished with a time of 16:47. Caleb Logan was the next Panther to cross the finish line, coming in 144th (109th) in 17:05.
Garrett Johnson (157th), Brady Louis (180th), Cale Jausel (189th), Grant Batteau (194th) and Ryan Brueggemann (195th) also competed for Pinckneyville.
Fithian (Oakwood) junior Jon Davis massacred the field by 42 seconds to cruise his way to a first-place overall finish at a time of 14:20. Monticello took home the team state championship with four runners in the top 33 overall, each of them in the top 20 of runners on a competing team.
