CROSS COUNTRY: Panthers advance to State Finals

Pinckneyville will be one of the twenty-five boys cross country teams heading to the State Finals this weekend after placing fourth at Saturday's IHSA Class A Sectional at SIU-Edwardsville.

The Panthers were led by Layton McNew's 12th-place overall finish at Edwardsville, with a time of 17:36.31, the 9th best finish by a runner whose team was competing as a group at the Sectional.

Other PCHS runners included Caleb Logan (24th), Garrett Johnson (32nd), Cale Jausel (58th), Brady Louis (62nd), Grant Batteau (66th) and Ryan Brueggeman (78th).

Du Quoin's girls were also competing as a team at Edwardsville, but came up short of a state berth by finishing ninth. The Lady Indians were led by Quinn Kirkpatrick, who was 22nd overall with a time of 21:18.15.

Andrea Lopez (37th), Kate Smith (59th), Grace Bailey (64th), Olivia Cravens (88th) and Tarynn Mays (98th) also competed for DHS.

Pinckneyville's Shania Opp finished 49th as an individual.

The State Cross Country meet will be held this coming Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Illinois for classes 1A through 3A.
