VOLLEYBALL: Lady Panthers celebrate Senior Night with a win over Du Quoin
On the Lady Panthers' senior night, it was juniors Danielle Bruns and Katelyn Mayer doing major damage on offense as Pinckneyville rallied past Du Quoin 25-23, 25-12 on Tuesday night.
Da. Bruns led PCHS with 8 kills and 3 blocks to go along with 6 digs and Mayer killed 7 and had 3 digs. Denise Bruns, Haley Simpson and Morgan Wild each recorded 1 kill.
Simpson led digs with 7 and fellow-senior Kristen Ginn topped the assists category for Pinckneyville with 11.
The Lady Panthers fought off a late charge from Du Quoin in the first set before darting to an 18-8 start to the second.
Rebekah Maddox had 9 kills to lead the Lady Indians in defeat. Kate Toler added 6, Hope Fenton 5 and Cassidy Rice 2. Alexis Kohrs led DHS in digs with 12, Toler had 9, Bailie Caldwell 8. Hailey Stewart finished with a team-high 12 assists.
Du Quoin won the three-set J-V match, taking the third and decisive set 21-18.
PCHS raised over $200 for breast cancer awareness during the evening's events.
Du Quoin (6-15) hosts Nashville on Thursday night when Pinckneyville (7-20) travels to Sparta.
