BASEBALL: St. Bruno-Tamaroa falls in State Finals
St. Bruno-Tamaroa's run in the SIJHSAA Class S State Baseball Tournament came to an end on Monday against St. Peter & Paul of Waterloo and starting pitcher Trevor Davis.
Davis struck out ten SB-T Falcons and didn't allow a hit, walking four in the SPPS Falcons' 4-0 shutout in the Championship game at Coulterville City Park.
St. Bruno-Tamaroa hurler Tyler Rulevish dueled with Davis through three innings, but gave up the game's first hit on a one-out single to Ben Huels in the top of the fourth. Davis followed with a two-run homer, and later scored after a walk in the two-run sixth inning or SPPS.
SB-T couldn't get more than one runner on base, scattering four free passes at the plate. Evan Williams (2), Logan Lindner and Bradley Kurtz each drew walks.
Rulevish allowed only three hits, but each time the batter ended up coming around to score. He walked five and struck out sixteen, including six in a row at one point.
Kyle Luke, Isaac Hardin, Lane Lovel, Daniel Huggins, Kelton Linze, and Tyler Restoff also saw action in the title game. John Alongi and Anthony Beaty round out the roster for the SB-T Falcons, coached by Kevin Hardin and assistant Larry Hardin.
The Falcons received a second-place trophy for their efforts after beating St. Ann-TSJ and Creal Springs in quarterfinals and semifinals of Class S.
