GOLF: McDaniel qualifies for fourth State Final
With an 85, Pinckneyville senior Heather McDaniel finished third among advancing individuals from Monday's Class A Teutopolis Girls Golf Sectional at Effingham Country Club, but the Lady Panthers failed to advance their team, finishing tenth.
This will be McDaniel's fourth trip to state, where she finished fifth as a junior on the same course she will be playing this Friday and Saturday, Red Tail Run in Decatur.
Teams from Massac County, Nashville and Eldorado will also be moving on to Decatur, along with nine other individuals: Effingham St. Anthony's Miranda Rohlfing (74), Columbia's Allie Leingang (81), Vandalia's Raechelle Leiken (86), Columbia's Megan Biscan (87), Sparta's Kendra Kessler (88), Alton Marquette's Elaina Smith (89), Mt. Carmel's Abbey Leighty (89), Trico's Katie Garver (89) and Althoff's Maddie Elbe (90).
Hornettes junior Shawn Rennegarbe (74) took home medalist honors after winning the first playoff hole with Rohlfing.
Third and fourth place scores both came from Eldorado - Ashton Goodley fired a 79 and Taylor Goodley shot 81, the same as Leingang.
Massac County combined to shoot 343 as a team, fourteen shots better than the second-place Hornets (357). Eldorado was seven shots back of Nashville at 364.
McDaniel, Sarah Carlson (105), Alexis Anderson (114) and Olivia Mathis (121) combined for Pinckneyville's total of 425. Britney Thomas shot 130, Ellie Carlson 134.
The Lady Panthers finish the season with 41 team victories against 21 defeats.
Du Quoin High School golfer Marisa Ferguson also participated in the Sectional, but failed to advance.
