VOLLEYBALL: DHS's struggles continue against Sparta
DU QUOIN, IL - The DuQuoin High School Volleyball Team may be struggling this season, but they played two tough games against Sparta on Tuesday evening at home. DuQuoin's record is 4-13 on the season, and they have lost three times to Sparta.
The Varsity lost the match at 2-0 with game scores of 25-15 and 25-18. Kate Toler had 6 kills for the Indians followed by Rebekah Maddox with 5 kills. Maddox led in blocks with 5, and Hailey Stewart had 8 assists.
The Varsity players are Alaina Caldwell, Alexis Kohrs, Kate Toler, Hope Fenton, Jessica Martin, Chandra Gilliam, Cassidy Rice, Bailie Caldwell, Lela Spiller, Rebekah Maddox, Hailey Stewart, and Jordyn Bullar.
The Varsity Coach is Jesica Green. Coach Green commented about the match, "it was a tough loss. This is the third time that Sparta has beaten us. We need to stay positive as a team, and work harder. We need to finish the season strong." Coach Green is assisted by Kasi Camden.
The Junior Varsity lost a very close match as well at 2-0. Game scores were 26-24 and 25-19. The JV record is 3-7 on the season. Members of the JV team are Lela Spiller, Alaina Caldwell, Hope Fenton, Bailie Caldwell, Afton Robinson, Sydney Lewis, Amanda Atteberry, Jordyn Bullar, Taylor Gates, Chandra Gilliam, and Kate Toler.
The Freshman squad won their match at 2-0 over Sparta. Game scores were 25-19 and 25-20. This was the second win of the season for the young team. Members of the team are Taylor Bizaillion, Sydney Lewis, Allyson Morgan, Kristyna Queen, Carlie Daffron, Abigail Vancil, Jordyn Bullar, Afton Robinson, Taylor Gates, and Alaina Caldwell.
DuQuoin is at home again on Thursday in another conference match. This time with Carterville. Freshman games start at 5:30 followed by the JV at approximately 6:30, and the Varsity at 7:30.
