GOLF: Sparta Boys, PCHS Girls post wins
TAMAROA, IL - Boys golf teams from Pinckneyville, Du Quoin and Sparta took part in a tri-match on Monday at Red Hawk Golf Club with the Bulldogs taking home first place with a stroke total of 159. The Panthers claimed second, edging out the Indians 194-196.
Sparta's Clayton Coop and Charlie Cunningham shared medalist honors with each shooting 36 for nine holes.
Kyle Brocaille led the Panthers with a 45, Will Travis had a career-best 46. Lee Wittenauer (50) and Alec Brand (53) completed PCHS's team score while Drew Lipe (54) and Patrick Kovic (55) also took part for Pinckneyville.
The Indians were led by Bradon Woodside's 42 and 46's from Jacob Fisher and Nolan Graham. Cole McKenzie's 62 rounded out Du Quoin's score. Grant Woodside finished with a 68.
The same three schools sent their girls' teams to Sparta Country Club, where the Lady Panthers came away with a four-stroke victory over the Lady Bulldogs 195-199 while the Lady Indians finished third at 262.
Pinckneyville's Heather McDaniel and Sparta's Kendra Kessler both shot 37 to share the medalist award. McDaniel was also the medalist on Friday, when the Lady Panthers defeated Red Bud at home 197-224.
Olivia Mathis (49), Ellie Carlson (51) and Sarah Carlson (53) completed Pinckneyville's total and Alexis Anderson (54) and Britney Thomas (61) also played nine holes for PCHS.
Marisa Ferguson (52), Abigail Vancil (62), Kelly Genesio (72) and Hannah Werner (76) competed for Du Quoin.
Du Quoin's Boys host Harrisburg on Tuesday when Pinckneyville's girls are also at home against Centralia. On Wednesday, Du Quoin's boys host Goreville while the girls are at Herrin and Pinckneyville's teams travel to Anna-Jonesboro.
