GOLF: Lady Panthers cruise past Carterville

Pinckneyville, Ill. - The Lady Panthers improved to 8-3 on the season after beating Carterville on Tuesday at Red Hawk Golf Club as Heather McDaniel won medalist with a nine-hole total of 37 (+1).

Sarah Carlson's 43, and Olivia Mathis and Alexis Anderson's 46s completed Pinckneyville's score of 172. Ellie Carlson (56), Britney Thomas (62) and Erica Crews (65) also participated for the Lady Panthers.

Adrian Brown led Carterville (204) with a 39, good for second overall.

Pinckneyville's boys were at Benton on Tuesday but struggled to keep pace with two talented teams in the Rangers and Massac County.

The Patriots shot 144 as a team to claim first, Benton was second at 160.

Lee Wittenauer (39), Jordan Grissom (44), Kyle Brocaille (50) and Travis Lipe (52) combined for Pinckneyville's total of 185.

Patrick Kovic (54) and Will Travis (55) also played rounds for the Panthers.

Pinckneyville's boys travel to Murphysboro on Thursday while the girls are off until Friday's Lady Panther Invitational at Red Hawk. Nine girls teams including defending state runner-up Nashville will take part with the event teeing off around 3:30 p.m.
