GOLF: PCHS teams get first victory, McDaniel wins medalist
OKAWVILLE, IL - Pinckneyville's boys and girls golf teams both posted their first team victories of the young season on Wednesday and Heather McDaniel claimed her second medalist award with a one-under 35 at Roland Barkau Memorial Golf Course in Okawville.
The Lady Panthers shot 177, good for second behind the Lady Rockets (167) and ahead of Breese Central (207). The boys set a season-low with a combined score of 176 to finish behind Sparta (160) and in front of Okawville (184).
McDaniel had four birdies in her round on Wednesday, helping move the PCHS girls to 1-2 in 2012. Fellow-senior Sarah Carlson shot a career-best 39 and combined with McDaniel, Olivia Mathis (48) and Alexis Anderson (55) for Pinckneyville's team total. Britney Thomas (56) and newcomer Ellie Carlson (61) also participated for the Lady Panthers.
Sophomores Jordan Grissom and Lee Wittenauer led the way for the boys, each scoring 42. Kyle Brocaille and Alec Brand both shot 46 to complete the Panthers' total. Patrick Kovic (47) and Drew Lipe (48) also took part for PCHS (1-7-1).
Sparta's Klayton Coop (36) was the medalist in the boys' match.
Both Pinckneyville teams return to Okawville this Saturday for an Invitational.
