Amtrak begins operations at SIMMS

Amtrak on Tuesday, May 20 began serving passengers in the Phase 1 portion of the Southern Illinois Multimodal Station (SIMMS), located at 401 S. Illinois Ave. in Carbondale.

In addition to the new Amtrak station, the Phase 1 portion of the SIMMS includes space for Man-Tra-Con Corporation. In the near future, Phase 1 will also host a shared office environment where individuals, freelancers, startups and remote workers can rent a desk or office area to work alongside others.

Construction of Phase 2 of the SIMMS began this week. Phase 2 will include office space for JAX Mass Transit and Carbondale Tourism, as well as a place for SIU.
