Downtown gym earns Bright Spot honors

The new So ILL Syndicate Gym, located at 622 S. Illinois Ave., has been recognized with a Bright Spot Award from Keep Carbondale Beautiful, a local affiliate of the national nonprofit Keep America Beautiful.

Owner Daniel Presley bought the historic Yellow Cab building in early 2024. The building dates back to 1936 and had been empty for the last 17 years. After a year of extensive renovations Presley opened the gym to the public on May 1, 2025. The building’s spruced-up façade, facing City Hall, is truly a bright spot in the heart of downtown Carbondale.
