David Zmuda, Sr. of rural Vienna

David Zmuda, Sr., age 74 years, a resident of rural Vienna, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2025, at 4:42 p.m. at his home.

David was born July 31, 1951, in Blue Island, Ill. He was the son of Thaddeus J. “Ted” Zmuda and Helen (Zychowski) Zmuda.

On Aug. 23, 1980, David was united in marriage to Caryn Rae Chambers at St. Joseph Catholic Church near Elizabethtown. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2018.

David is survived by his children, Rachel (Johnathan) BySura of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., and David A. Zmuda, Jr. of Vienna; seven grandchildren, Hayden, Ellie, Sadie, Elizabeth, Nolan, Nathan and Macie; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Zmuda of Montana.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Zmuda.

David was a graduate of Southeastern Illinois Community College, near Harrisburg, where he earned an associate degree. David was employed for over 30 years by the East Perry Lumber Company as a timber buyer prior to his retirement.

David is fondly remembered for his love of motorcycles and riding. He was a parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church, near Vienna.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday morning, Nov. 8, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Vienna. Father Larry Lemay officiated.

Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery near Elizabethtown.

A prayer service was conducted Friday afternoon, Nov. 7, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. The visitation followed. There was also a time of visitation Saturday morning, Nov. 8, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church.
