Michael ‘Pike’ Gregory Higgins of Cambria

Michael “Pike” Gregory Higgins, 77, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Herrin Hospital.

Michael was born on Saturday, March 12, 1949, to James Andrew and Margaret Lorena (Maier) Higgins in Carbondale.

Michael is survived by his brother, Ronald (Beth) Higgins; sisters-in-law Christine Dakin, Pat Higgins and Margaret Higgins; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James, Timothy and Les Higgins; and his sister, Jeannie Jameson.

Michael graduated from University School at SIU in Carbondale and Carbondale Community High School. He dedicated much of his time to caring for animals, ensuring that each creature he encountered received the love and attention it deserved. A prolific reader, Michael found joy in the pages of detective novels, often losing himself in their intricate plots and compelling characters. His love for literature not only provided entertainment but also sparked many engaging conversations with those around him. He enjoyed focusing on investments and finance, while also being a huge fan who always rooted for the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Rams.

Private services will be held at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro, where he will be laid to rest next to his parents.
