Du Quoin Ladies Invitational cut short due to weather
DU QUOIN - The Du Quoin High School girls track team won yet another meet Tuesday, albeit one shortened due to inclement weather.
The Indians tallied 91 points in the nine-team invitational they hosted. Nashville was second with 73.5 points. Anna-Jonesboro was third at 50 followed by Johnston City, Pinckneyville, Christopher, Hamilton County,
Fairfield and Goreville. The meet was delayed right after the 100 meter hurdles event for about 20 minutes and eventually canceled.
DHS Athletic Director Derek Beard explained that school officials were not going to take any chances on getting someone hurt.
Before the bad weather, however, all the field events had concluded and a few of the running events.
Earning firsts for DHS were the 4x800-meter relay team of Jacqueline Crain, Olivia Phillips, Grace Alongi and Gabrielle Alongi with a time of 10:31.44 and 4x100-meter relay group of Bailey Harsy, Cyerrah Harris, Ayanna Dunklin and Madison Davis in 51.35 seconds.
The Indians notched several second-place finishes. Maddie Decker was runner-up in the 3200-meter run at 13:30.47. jaylyn Wood was second in the 100 hurdles in 16.25 seconds, just one-one hundredth of a second behind first-place finisher Lauren Friess of Johnston City (16.24). Aubrey Barwick was second in the discus throw at 89 feet, 9 inches. Harsy was second in the long jump at 16 feet, 7 inches. Wood was second in the pole vault at 9 feet. Ella Hirsch was second in the triple jump at 32 feet, 8 3/4 inches.
Thirds were awarded to Harsy in the 100 hurdles in 16.32 seconds, Elizabeth Bird in the high jump at 5 feet even and Delanie Dearmond in the triple jump at 31-9 1/2.
Tottionna Lloyd was fifth in the 100 hurdles at 17.85 seconds. Also placing fifth was Adiana Stewart in the shot put at 31 feet, 3 inches. Barwick was seventh in the shot put at 29-10 1/2. Addi Darnell was eighth in the discus throw at 79-6.
The Panthers were led by Dakota Krone with first-place finishes in both the long jump (18 feet) and triple jump (37 feet, 4 1/2 inches).
The 4x100-meter relay group of Kassidy Lee, Krone, Riley Jade and Ashlee Hirsch was fourth with a time of 53.71 seconds. Lee tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 8 inches.
The Lady Indians return to action Friday at Collinsville. The DHS boys will run Friday at the Marion Relays.
