Du Quoin Public Library keeps 'branching out;' New microfilm reader in place
As the doors were closed and locked at the Du Quoin Public Library the other day, director Kristina Benson and board members Leanna Leek and Pam Leach were continuing some curious work on the back wall in the genealogy section.
Climbing up and over a desk several times.Looking at what looked like a blueprint. Handing pieces of what looked like a tree up to Kristina.
"What are you doing!?"
"This is our new genealogy tree," she said.
It's a wall-sized cutout of a tree and as donations of research and money are made to the genealogy department, leaves will be added to the tree and the names of the benefactors will be printed onto the leaves.
It's yet another level of caring--and growing at this great community library.
In 2015 it's a library that will give you access to a beautiful new digital microfilm reader and storage computer which in the coming months may also store much of the Robert Morefield photo archives of Du Quoin's great history.
It is the library that is expanding its eBooks and Talking Books offerings. It is the library that is now part of one of the nation's largest book and audio interlibrary networks.
It will be the library that will bring you dozens of children's literacy and activity programs during the coming year and will continue to be one of the community's greatest public access resources.
