Longtime Du Quoin Resident Returning to Share Couple's Book ‘Brain Storm'
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Longtime Du Quoin resident Laura Lee (Fry) Allen and her husband Bruce return to Du Quoin next week to share their story of surviving insurmountable odds when Bruce was stricken with a brain injury.
She is the daughter of the late Granville and Helen Fry.
The couple found courage, determination, and strength from God to forge through their obstacles of Bruce's intense and often heartbreaking recovery.
The couple will be house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jon Montgomery while in Du Quoin next week. They will share their story during two services at the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin on Sunday, June 10.
"The plan now is that we will arrive in Du Quoin on Thursday, June 7, and then drive to Edwardsville to see my 93-year-old aunt on Friday afternoon. We are counseling with a brain injury survivor and his wife in Springfield on Saturday, and then returning to Du Quoin. Of course, Sunday we are speaking at First Baptist and doing a book signing," Laura said.
"Brain Storm" views these hurdles through the separate eyes of both the survivor--Bruce-- and the caregiver--Laura. She says that for almost a year her husband lost almost all of his sight and sensory abilities. It recounts how God miraculously led them through each step of the journey. This candid, intimate, and often humorous story will encourage and inspire readers-especially those who are currently traveling a similar path. You will learn why Bruce decided, "This has been the best year of my life."
Brief stories of nine other brain injury survivors are told to demonstrate how they are now dealing with their deficits after recovery. Resources such as websites, books, and movies are also listed to help caregivers and survivors find help and encouragement.
