PCHS ‘Community High School' Entablature Tricky

The most noteworthy are the limestone plaques from the upper wall of the entrance. They included depictions of children holding a globe, the ABC's and books. These pieces of limestone were taken down without incident and will be inlaid into the new building.

A flagpole monument from the Class of 1934 has also been moved.

Taking down the large limestone entablature immediately above the front doors which reads simply "Community High School" is another matter, says Green.

It is very fragile and when contractors took a stab at trying to loosen it, the edges began to crumble. Green says taking down the tablet is a goal, but not at the risk of endangering workmen. It will be looked at one more time before the scheduled June 8-15 demolition gets underway.

Mr. Green said many of the building's artifacts were disposed of years ago. "There were a few scientific scales, built-in bookcases, things like that," said Green "Realistically the rest of it goes with the demolition."
