American Legion Auxiliary sends care package
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ In keeping with the programs and goals of the American Legion Auxiliary to benefit veterans, the Chester American Legion Auxiliary Unit 487 recently shipped six "care packages" to military personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Five boxes were sent to individuals and one was sent to a Platoon to be shared by its members. The boxes contained personal items, gloves, socks, books, writing materials, puzzle books, snack bars and candy which were donated by members of the Auxiliary or purchased by the Auxiliary. Also included in the boxes was deer jerky donated by the Chester KC Club, cards thanking the personnel for their service which were hand made by Farida Hollaway, and a letter from the Auxiliary thanking them for their service to our Country. Postage for the boxes was donated by the American Legion Post 487.
Sending "care packages" and telephone cards to area active military personnel is an on-going project of the local Auxiliary. This past Christmas, they sent two "care packages" and thirteen telephone cards to overseas and stateside personnel. In addition, a gift card was sent to the wife and children of the two who received the "care packages." The Auxiliary continues to seek the names and addresses of area military personnel serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait so they can send packages their way. Printed addresses may be left at the Legion Post Home or with any Auxiliary member. Donated items such as listed above are gladly accepted and may also be left at the Legion Post Home. Sending the "care packages" with community involvement is just a small way we can show our appreciation to the military personnel for their dedication and service to our country.
