</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ The Elverado School Board welcomed and swore in two new members Tuesday, Mark Wisley and Richard Bernardini.
"I'm glad to be back. I'm going to work as hard as I can to help the community," Wisely stated.
The new board members came to replace two outgoing members, Dawn Oestreicher and Randy Mathis.
The new positions set for the board are as follows: President Kenton Schafer, Vise-President Rob Havens, Secretary Joyce Hickman, and Treasurer Imogene Doerr.
Future meetings for the Elverado School Board were set for the third Thursday of every month at 6 p.m.
Superintendent John Hostert gave a small report about stimulus funds and maintenance grants that may be available to the school.
"Text books should be our priority," Hostert stated.
The school has filed for grants including a Title I and Special Education grant. Hostert explained that the way the stimulus funds are appropriated and designed to work were to pay off back debts instead of fund future projects.
The superintendent also reviewed a list of maintenance issues with the following schools: replacement of an air compressor at Elverado Primary; Playground/parking lot project at Elv. Prim; re-arrangement of district office at Elv. Prim; repair heating system at Elverado Intermediate; repair classroom floor at Elv. Inter; replace blower unit at Elverado Jr. High; change HVAC control system at Elverado High School; and improve heating/cooling at Elverado High Gym.
Most of the items were tabled for the superintendent to get prices for the issues or explore alternate solutions for projects, such as changing the HVAC control system at the high school, that my cost $30,000 or more. The superintendent also put maintenance on a temporary hold hoping that Governor Quinn follows through with helping schools with maintenance grants.
However, after receiving a bid for the playground/parking lot project, a bid to perform the work for free was submitted so long as the materials were supplied. The board was very much in favor and was thankful of the free bid.
