According to the Illinois State Police's preliminary crash report, a 1998 BMW motorcycle driven by 55-year-old Sparta resident Richard Grim was traveling westbound on Butler Street near the intersection with Maple Street.

The motorcycle then reportedly struck the rear of a 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by 57-year-old Tommy Bauer, of Tilden.

Both Grim and his passenger, 62-year-old Debra Dyment of Metamora, were airlifted from the scene to a regional hospital as a result of the accident, which was reported at 7:50 p.m.
