DMS boys and girls finish first at conference meet

The Du Quoin Middle school boys and girls hosted the JSWEC conference meet Friday morning with both teams taking first for respective conference championships.<br />The boys team took first with 158.5 points as a team, while Pinckneyville took second with 123 points. Other finishers were Murphysboro (68), Chester (38), Sparta Lincoln (37) and Nashville (16.5). <br />On the girls side, the Lady Warriors took first with 131 points as a team, a large margin ahead of the second-place finisher Sparta Lincoln with 82. Other finishers were Murphysboro (80), Nashville (80), Pinckneyville (46) and Chester (14). <br />On the boys side, DMS took home seven first-place finishes. <br />Juhl Garrett led the way on the track with a pair of individual wins, taking first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.83 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.79 seconds. Teammate Lane Bauman finished strong in both events as well, taking second in the 100-meters with a time of 12.85 seconds and fourth in the 200-meters with a time of 27.4 seconds<br />Du Quoin dominated the relays, taking first in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays. <br />The 4x100-meter relay team (Bauman, Drake Kremer, Colton Baker and Garrett) finished first with a time of 51.70 seconds. <br />The 4x200-meter relay team (Elijah Jones, Traijon Smith, Tyler Gassel and Jaden Smith) finished first with a time of 1:52.25, just ahead of Pinckneyville's team (Chase Schneider, Levi Vuichard, Cody Brand and Gabe Paredes) who finished second with a time of 1:55.14.<br />The 4x400-meter relay team (Roberson, Kremer, Baker and Kelvin Edward) rounded out the relay performances, finishing first with a time of 4:10.67. <br />Toby Hottes picked up the other two first-place finishes for the Warriors, taking first in the shot put with a throw of 37-03.5 and discus with a throw of 101-07. <br />First place finishers for second-place Pinckneyville were, Dre Scott (high jump with a jump of 5'08"), Barrett Denny (100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.40 seconds), Ben Restoff (400-meters with a time of 59.43 seconds), <br />On the girls side, the Lady Warriors dominated competition with eight first-place finishes. <br />In field competition, Isabella Hirsch took first in the long jump with a jump of 13'09.5", while Delaynie Dearmond won the high jump with a jump of 4'07". <br />Aubrey Barwick took home two-first place finishes, taking first in the discus with a throw of 95-08 and shot put with a throw of 29-11.50. <br />On the track, the Lady Warriors 4x100 (Malia Webb, Hirsch, Olivia James and Ayanna Dunklin) and 4x200-meter relay (Webb, James, Ella Brock and A Dunklin) teams took first with times of 56.31 seconds and 2:00.17, respectively. <br />Dearmond took first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.92 seconds and A. Dunklin finished first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.18 seconds. <br />Other top-three finishers for the Lady Warriors were Hirsch (third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.79 seconds), Malia Webb (second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.14 seconds), Jacqueline Crain (third in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:09.51) and Madeline Robinson (third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:52.65), <br />The DMS boys and girls will look to continue it's strong season when they resume action at home Wednesday, with the meet scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
