Obituary for Robert "Bob" Wolz
Dr. Robert "Bob" C. Wolz, 83
He was born in St. Louis on June 15, 1931, to F. Robert and Bertha E. (Hammer) Wolz and died Saturday, February 28, 2015, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, MO, where he had been a resident for several years. He was 83 years old.
He graduated from St. Louis University School of Dentistry in 1956 and established a dental practice on the second floor of the Hershbach Building on Swanwick Street in Chester.
In the late 1950s he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base for several years before returning to Chester to resume his dental practice.
In the mid 1960s he built the dental office at 1101 Opdyke (Chester Smile Center). He remained in the Air Force Reserves for more than 20 years, eventually attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chester, was a 50-year member of the Chester Chamber of Commerce, and was a past Worshipful Master of the Chester Masonic Lodge. In addition, he helped established and was the "Chapter Dad" of the Shadrach Bond Chapter, Order of DeMolay, in Chester in the 1970s.
He practiced dentistry in Chester for more than 40 years and, for a time, also had dental practices in Fredericktown, MO, St. Louis and East St. Louis, IL. He retired, moved to the St. Louis area and married Lois J. Wolz in the late 1990s. She preceded him in death on Nov. 25, 2014.
Survivors, include a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Kathy Wolz of Cape Girardeau, MO; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Melinda Wolz of Savannah, GA; a grandson, Miller Wolz of Savannah, GA; three granddaughters, Dr. Katie Bradford of Brooklyn, NY, Allison Wolz of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Amy Claire Wolz of Starkville, MS; a brother, Gary N. Wolz of Kansas City, MO, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Wolz, of Florissant, MO.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 3 at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons Funeral Home in St. Louis with <span class="s1">inurnment</span> at Lakewood Park Cemetery.
