Catholic Daughters of the Americas hosts April meeting

DU QUOIN - Catholic Daughters of the Americas (Court 795) opened the monthly meeting on April 9 by reciting the rosary followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Twenty members were in attendance.

Carol Collins read the minutes. Treasurer's report was provided by Margie Born. Lisa Mohr gave the membership update.

Brenda Sims reported that the Newman Center sent information on the Quilt and Cash Bingo to be held at Red Bud this Sunday, April 29. One Million Rosaries for the Unborn Babies is May 4-6. It is requested that everyone pray at least one rosary. April is National Child Abuse Month. Caritas Family Solutions is requesting donations.

Dorothy Prusacki and Phyllis Majewski reported for the quilters. The raffle project did not go as well as expected. There was a lot of competition. Mission donations will be sent again in June, according to Margie Born.

Kelly Paxton reported on Parish news. The PSR retreat was April 7. Seven students received First Communion on April 22 and a reception followed. Several women attended Cursillo weekend at Ruma. Three were separate men and women's weekends. It is difficult to explain how you are affected. It is like a spiritual awakening journey where you can fall in love with religion. The last PSR class is May 5.

Brenda Sims thanked everyone for the Humane Shelter donations. Phyllis Majewski thanked CDA for the Mass for Clarence. Allen Martin advised that the K of C will again co-sponsor the Pregnancy Matters collection during May and June.

April birthdays are: Dorothy Suchomski, Esther Balch, Martha Roznowski, Diane Derby-Carrel and Mary Beth Lane.

The next meeting will be May 14 with rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. Cake and ice creamwas served by the committee. Prayer list was read by Carol Collins. Margie Born read the Jelly Bean prayer provided by Cris Hutson and led the closing prayer. Marlene Kellerman won the 50/50 raffle. Door prize was won by Sharon Martin. Officer raffle gifts were won by: Janet Bowlin, Lisa Mohr, Norma Martin, Esther Balch, Suzanne McCrary, Phyllis Majewski, Carol Collins, Liz Thompson and Jean Jones.
