DMS boys and girls track in first-place in postponed Invite
The Du Quoin Middle School boys and girls track team's found themselves in first place after the DMS Jr. Classic Invitational came to a halt Friday afternoon due to weather, with a possible rescheduling of the remaining events to be determined. <br />The boys team were in first-place with 85 points as a team, with 11 events finished, well ahead second-place Smithton with 44 points. <br />The girls held first with 54 points as a team, with nine events finished, with St. Bruno trailing right behind with 50 points.<br />Combined, DMS tallied five first-place finishes in the shortened meet.<br />On the boys side for DMS, Toby Hottes took first in the discus throw with a best throw of 115'10.50", edging out Benton's Gabe Craig (113'08"). Hottes also took fourth in the shot put with a best throw of 37'02.50". <br />Tyler Gassel took first place in the pole vault with a jump of 6'02" and third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.86 seconds. <br />On the girls side, Aubrey Barwick finished first in the discus with a throw of 89'03" and the shot put with a throw of 30'10". <br />Delaynie Dearmond rounded out the first-place finishes in the pole vault with a jump of 6'09". Dearmond also took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.29 seconds. <br />Other top finishers for Du Quoin were Kelvin Edward (third in the 400-meter), Wade Roberson (fourth in high jump), Konnor Harris (fourth in long jump), Emily Boyett (fourth in shot put) and Madeline Robinson (fourth in pole vault).<br />DMS will look to resume action Thursday with the SIJHSAA Class L Regional Track Meet being held at Du Quoin high school. Field events are set to kick off at 10 a.m.
