PCHS golfers recognized for placing third at State
PINCKNEYVILLE - The Pinckneyville High School girls' golf team celebrated its third-place finish at the state tournament in Decatur over the weekend with a reception in Thomas Gym and the PCHS Cafetorium on Sunday, Oct. 14.
The third-place state golf team trophy is the first in school history, as was the sectional championship. The girls also won the River-to-River Conference title. As Panthers Athletic Director Bob Waggoner pointed out, Pinckneyville and second-place Massac County were the only two public school teams in the final eight at the 1A state meet, with private schools from the larger communities of Bloomington, Champaign, Alton, Chicago, Wheaton, and New Lenox bringing teams to the smaller class of the two-classes in golf.
Individually, Megan Breslin finished with the fifth-best round for the two-day tournament. It was her third straight Top Ten finish (8th, 7th, 5th) for All-State honors all three years. Twin sister, Sarah, had finishes of 21st, 22nd, and 12th this year in her third year to qualify for state. Grace McDaniel was 43rd, Kally Mayo 63rd for the Panthers' four scores that counted toward their team total.
