Du Quoin will have Trunk-or-Treat Oct. 30
The city of Du Quoin will host its annual Trunk-or-Treat Friday, Oct. 30, Mayor Guy Alongi said.
In light of safety concerns over COVID-19, it was uncertain at one point whether the Halloween get-together could happen.
"We are going to have it, and we have very extensive guidelines about how we're putting it together," Alongi said.
The trunk-or-treat, which features local businesses and groups distributing candy to trick-or-treaters, will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.
The trunk-or-treat will be hosted in a drive-through format, beginning at the intersection of Main and Washington streets and ending before the train tracks at Main and Oak.
Rules for the trunk-or-treat are as follows:
Everyone must stay in the vehicle that is transporting them. No one will be allowed on the sidewalks, No walkers of any kind will be permitted.
<h3 class="breakHead">Additional rules include</h3>
Trunks will be limited to the first 50 to 60 that register in advance;
Participating people having trunks will be required to wear a mask and gloves;
All candy given out will be required to be prepackaged in a Zip-Loc bag;
Although you may have three persons at a trunk, only one person at a time will be able to approach a vehicle with trick-or-treaters;
<h3 class="breakHead">The following are rules for all vehicles transporting children:</h3>
Vehicles can be cars, trucks, SUV's ATV's or golf carts;
We recommend that only families travel together;
We recommend everyone traveling in a transport to wear a mask;
No one will be allowed to leave the transport in which they are traveling;
Under no conditions will walkers be allowed on Main Street during the event. Everyone will have to travel in a transport;
We encourage decorating transports to celebrate the occasion.
