Russell E. Keene

Russell E. Keene, age 69, of Collinsville, Ill., born Sept. 12, 1945 in Du Quoin, Ill., passed away at 4:12 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 at his residence.

Russ graduated from Sparta High School in 1963 and attained a Bachelors degree from SIU Carbondale. He taught at the Collinsville High School for 33 years. Russ loved sports. He coached basketball, baseball and football at CHS for many years. His baseball team won the State Championship in 1980 and were the runners-up in 1983. Russ enjoyed fishing and spending time at their cabin at Du Quoin City Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Frankie nee Britton Keene.

He is survived by wife: Jane nee Schneider Keene, whom he married on March 25, 1967, a son: Brad (Jennifer) Keene of Collinsville, Ill., a daughter: Kris (Sean) McLennan of Libertyville, Ill.; five grandchildren: Olivia, Tyson and Macey Keene, Sarah and Jessica McLennan; two brothers: Rev. Chuck (Karla) Keene of Shipman, Ill. and Howard (Sandy) Keene of Collinsville, Ill. and numerous nephews.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.

A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 with Pastor Gary Steffaniak officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CHS Purple Pride or Collinsville Kahoks Baseball Club and will be accepted at the funeral home.
