Lady Jackets to host summer volleyball camp
The Chester High School Volleyball Team will host its annual CHS Volleyball Camp July 11-13 at the air-conditioned Chester Grade School Gym for the comfort of all participants.
Heading up this year's camp will be Sarah Norman, last year's CHS Lady Jacket assistant coach. Norman will be assisted by her upcoming 2018 CHS Lady Jacket players. Instruction will take place each of the three days from 8:30 a.m.-noon.
The day will be divided into two sessions with 5th and 6th grade girls attending from 8:30 a.m.-10 a.m. and 7th and 8th grade girls attending from 10:30 a.m.-noon.
"Instruction will center around setting, passing, hitting, serving, blocking, footwork, utilizing good manners, maintaining positive attitudes and being a good teammate," Norman said
Both sessions will have the high school players lead the campers through the basic fundamentals of volleyball. Campers will also learn and execute numerous drills and put everything to use in scrimmage situations.
"Campers will also be learning about how to play the various volleyball positions on the court and they will also get the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills at those positions during match play," Norman said. "The high school player-coaches will set up various stations throughout the gym giving each camper the opportunity to learn about setting, passing, hitting, serving and using proper footwork as well as transitions for the first two days".
On the final day of camp, July 13, the last 45-minutes will be spent scrimmaging and imitating real game play. Parents and other spectators are welcome to attend the last day when the girls get the chance to demonstrate their skills learned through the camp.
The camp fee is $35 and includes the three days of instruction and a camp T-shirt. A registration form must be completed on the first morning of camp as well as a Chester Volleyball Camp Liability Waiver. At that time T-shirt sizes will also be taken. Checks for the camp should be made out to Chester High School Volleyball.
Preregistration is also available with forms found the Chester High School Volleyball Facebook page. Completed registration and Liability Waiver forms should be sent to Chester High School, Attention: Sarah Norman, 1901 Swanwick Street, Chester, Ill., 62233. Payment must accompany the forms.
All area girls entering grades 5th through 8th grades are strongly encouraged to attend this exciting and educational camp. Coach Norman and her 2018 CHS Lady Jacket Volleyball players are eager to teach all campers and serve as good role models throughout the three-day camp.
