SIU awards academic scholarships

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Sydney Nicole Haberberger, of Chester, is the recipient of the Academic Scholarship for Freshmen at Southern Illinois University Carbondale for the 2012 fall semester. The Academic Scholarship for Freshmen is valued at $14,000. Scholarships are based on academic merit and potential for superior achievement in college.

Haberberger, who will be a 2012 graduate of Chester High School, is the daughter of Mike and Cheryl Haberberger. Her honors and awards include Illinois State Scholar, National Honor Society, National Merit Scholar, Varsity letter in Volleyball, Trapshooting and Softball, Elk Student of the Year, and Drug Free Youth Leadership Award. Haberberger also participates in a variety of extracurricular activities including Volleyball, Trapshooting, Softball, Drug Free Youth, Lifesavers, Spanish Club, Scholar Bowl, WYSE Team, and Project Graduation Steering Committee.

Haberberger plans to study Psychology at SIU.
