William K. “Bill” Crawford Jr. of Pinckneyville
William K."Bill" Crawford Jr., age 96, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away at 11:55 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at at Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehab, Pinckneyville, IL.
Bill was born on Oct. 2, 1920 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to William K. and Maude (Coffman) Crawford Sr. On Sept. 20, 1944 he married Jean D. Durkin in Pensacola, FL and she preceded him in death on March 7, 2000.
Bill was a graduate of Knox College, Galesburg, IL in 1943 where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served in the United States Navy as a Naval Air Corps carrier pilot during WWII.  He was president and chairman of the board of the Murphy-Wall State Bank and Trust Company in Pinckneyville, and served there for 69 years.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pinckneyville, the grade school board, DuQuoin Elks, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, Foundation for Pinckneyville, and served as president of the Rotary Club. As a veteran, Bill participated on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He was an avid golfer and loved to take fishing trips in Canada.
Survivors include two sons, James M. Crawford of Westminster, CA and J. Joseph (Connie) Crawford of Pinckneyville, IL; one daughter, Jane (Herb) Walker of Wildwood, MO; one sister, Virginia Mason of Brentwood, TN; four grandchildren, Brian (Ashley) Crawford, Julie Wood,  David (Rachel) Walker and Cheriece (Darren) Kelsey; five great-grandchildren, Brittany, Ethan, Allisyn, Olivia, Tallulah; two great-great-grandchildren, Emery and Kayleigh; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; brother, Robert J. Crawford; his great-grandson SPC. Matthew Walker; and two nephews, David Crawford and Jack Mason.
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017. Interment will be at I.O.O.F Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL with the Rev. Jim Barnett officiating. Military rites will be performed by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville, IL.
Friends may call at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and on Saturday from 8 to 10:00 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the Foundation for Pinckneyville or to the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL.
