Robert Green

Robert Green, 85, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Fair Acres Rehab and Care Center in Du Quoin.

Robert had been the track superintendent for 34 years at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Du Quoin. Robert had been a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and had served from 1948 until 1951 with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and American Legion. Robert was also a Du Quoin High School board member.

He was born Aug. 2, 1928 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Orion H. and Inez (Harris) Green.

He married Virginia Vaughn on Nov. 14, 1952 at Du Quoin, Ill. and she preceded him in death on July 11, 2009.

He is survived by one daughter - Mary J. Hawkins of Du Quoin, two sons - John F. Green and Norman L. Green, both of Du Quoin, two granddaughters - Susan Jones and husband Kevin of Imperial, Mo. and Jenny Green of Jacksonville, Mo., two great granddaughters - Madeline Green of Du Quoin and Emma Jones of Imperial, Mo., two sisters - Catherine Pierce of Du Quoin and Charlotte Wilkerson of Buckner and one brother-in-law - Richard Vaughn and wife Pat of Pinckneyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers - Richard 'Pete' Harris, Joe Green, David Green and Henry Green, one sister-in-law - Betty Green and one great granddaughter - April Green.

Private military graveside services were held on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin with the Du Quoin American Legion and V.F.W. and the Army National Guard conducting the service.

Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the American Legion and V.F.W. Military Honors Detail and will be accepted at the funeral home.
