Robert L. Heape

Robert L. Heape, 89, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Bob had been the owner and operator of the West Side Drug Store in Du Quoin for many years. He was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin. He was also a member of the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion, Du Quoin Gold Plate, Lifetime member of the Kiwanis, Marshall Browning Hospital Auxiliary and the 98th Bombers Veterans Association. Bob served his country as a Staff Sargent in the Army/ Air Force during W.W. II. He served in Rome-Arno, Normandy, Air Combat in Balkans and Italy. He received five Bronze Stars for campaigns in EAME, Air Medal and four Oak Leaf Clusters.

He was born Aug. 15, 1924 at Du Quoin, Ill. the son of Lewis and Nellie Opal (Wolfe) Heape.

Bob married Edythe Miller on Sept. 6, 1947 at Du Quoin, Ill. she preceded him in death in March 1984.

He is survived by two daughters- Robin Juhl and husband Bob of Du Quoin and Randee Bastien of Du Quoin, grandchildren- Ryan Juhl and wife Natalie of Du Quoin, Rustin Juhl of Du Quoin, Rebecca Lewis and husband J.T. of Herrin, Reid Bastien and wife Katie of Du Quoin, Heath Bastien of Du Quoin and fiancee Jaira Rogers of West Frankfort, Cale Bastien of Du Quoin, four great grandchildren- Garrett Juhl, Drake Juhl, Wyatt Lewis and Aubrey Bastien

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son- Robert David Heape in infancy, son-in-law- Blaine Bastien, great grandchild- Todd Lewis, sister- Louise Jackson, brother- Bill Heape.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Dwayne Dollgener officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion and the Army National Guard.

Friends may make memorials to the St. Johns United Church of Christ and will be accepted at the funeral home.
