Marion Student of the Week

Marion Republican Staff Report

Sophia Speraneo, a fourth-grader at Lincoln Elementary School, is Marion Student of the Week.

Mark Adkins, her teacher, nominated her.

"Sophia is a top-notch student. She excels in all academic areas, but she is especially gifted in writing," he said. "As a writer, Sophia is both expressive and creative. More than anything, though, she is an excellent role model for other students."

Sophia's favorite subject to study in school is social studies.

"I like studying about people back in the days that changed the world," she said.

When she's not in school, Sophia said she likes to ride her scooter and play with her sister. Also, she's very much involved in acting, both in school and out of school.

Sophia said she was in a couple of plays at school, as well as "Seussical," "Elf" and "The Wizard of Oz" at Marion Cultural and Civic Center. She is now in rehearsals for "Mulan," which comes to the civic center next month.

"When I play (at home) I have to pretend that people are invisible," Sophia said. "When I'm on stage, I feel like it's coming to life."

Sophia's favorite color is turquoise, her favorite food is pasta, and her favorite snack is Chex Mix. Her favorite TV show is "iCarly," and her favorite movie is "The Greatest Showman."

As for her future, Sophia said she wants to be either a meteorologist or a fourth-grade teacher.
