Cast sought for Miller's 'The Crucible' this fall

The Stage Company will hold open auditions for the first play of its 37th season, Arthur Miller's classic drama "The Crucible," at 6 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Varsity. "The Crucible" will be directed by Elyse Pineau, retired associate professor emerita of communication studies at SIU. Performances are set for Oct. 12 to 14 and Oct. 18 to 21 in downtown Carbondale.

Rt. 51 to host Ducks Derby bags tourney

Rt. 51 Brewing Company in Elkville will play host Saturday, Aug. 11 to a bags tournament kicking off the fourth-annual Southern Illinois Ducky Derby Dash, which takes place at the Du Quoin State Fair and benefits Special Olympics Illinois. Prizes include $500 cash. Registration will begin at 5 p.m., and the tournament will follow at 6 p.m. There is a $30 entry fee for each team of two. Included in the fee are six duck adoptions (three per team member).

Varsity to show hit documentary 'Three Identical Strangers'

"Three Identical Strangers" will show at The Varsity for one day only on Sunday, Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The film is winner of the Sundance Film Festival's Special Jury Award.
