Du Quoin girls track team wins Fairfield meet

FAIRFIELD - The Du Quoin High School girls track and field team won its third meet of the season Thursday when it claimed the Fairfield Lady Mules Invitational championship.

Du Quoin scored 184 points at the meet to beat Christopher (117), Sesser-Valier (117), Fairfield (48), Carmi (48) and six other teams.

Maddie Robison set a new school record in the pole vault when she cleared 7-9 - then teammate Delaynie Dearmond established an even newer record by going 8-feet moments later.

Also in field events, Ella Hirsch placed second in triple jump (32-4.5) and fourth in long jump (15-3). Elizabeth Bird was third in high jump (4-10) and triple jump (30-1). Aubrey Barwick was second in shot put (33-8.5) and third in discus (95-10).

On the track, Gabby Alongi won the 400 (1:00.34), 800 (2:33.66) and two-mile (13:43.05). She was also fifth in the mile (6:37.47).

Madison Davis won the 100 (12.64) just ahead of teammate Bailey Harsy (12.66) and Harsy was the winner of the 100 hurdles in 17.31 with Dearmond second (17.61).

Bird was second in the 200 (29.14) with Harsy third (29.20) and Jacqueline Crain was third in the 400 (1:06.56).

Du Quoin's 4x800 relay placed first in 11:13.82, the 4x100 placed first in 54.24, the 4x200 placed first in 1:55.65 and the 4x400 placed third in 4:42.0.

The Lady Indians run at the SIRR Conference Meet this Thursday in West Frankfort, which is the last scheduled meet before the Du Quoin Sectional on May 9.
