Du Quoin finishes first at Lady Indian Classic

Du Quoin needed every last point to win Tuesday night, edging out Nashville by just a point, 145-144, to take first in the Lady Indian Classic.<br />Other finishers were CZR (76), Johnston City (61), Pinckneyville (49), Anna-Jonesboro (49) and Murphysboro (33). <br />Senior members Emily Born, Shelby Wheeler, K-sha Morgan, Kate Smith, Hannah Baxter, Jennifer Lambert, MAdison Dennis, and Rylea Mcdonald were recognized during the meet as part of senior night. <br />The Lady Indians racked up eight first-place finishes, seven new personal bests, including a new school record as Gabby Alongi broke her own 800-meter run school record with a time of 2:24.19, finishing first in the event. <br />Alongi also finished first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:38.06, just two seconds shy of the school record of 5:36. Andrea Lopez finished fourth in the event with a time of 6:46.22. <br />The 4x100-meter relay team (Hannah Baxter, Tarynn Mays, Bailey Harsy and Madison) continued to creep closer to the school record of 49.9 seconds, taking first with a new personal best time of 50.27 seconds. <br />The 4x200-meter relay team (Rylea McDonald, Baxter, Skye Westerhouse and Davis) and 4x400-meter relay team (Davis, Kate Smith, Quinn Kirkpatrick and Alongi) both set new personal records as well with times of 1:52.82 and 4:28.46, respectively. The 4x100-meter relay team finished first, while the 4x400 team took second. <br />Two other individual personal bests came from Elizabeth Bird in the triple jump (finishing eighth) with a jump of 29'03" and Harsy in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.76 seconds to finish fourth. <br />Tarynn Mays took home a pair of first-place finishes in the triple jump with jump of 37'10" and 200-meter dash with a time of 26.15 seconds. She also took second in the long jump with a jump of 16'06". <br />Madison Davis finished first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.40 seconds to go along with her relay performances. <br />The other first-place finish came from the 4x800-meter relay team (Lauren Cravens, Smith, Kirkpatrick and Stewart) with a time of 10:47.12. <br />Other scorers for Du Quoin at the meet were: Maci Collins (second in shot put with a throw of 32'06"), Kirkpatrick (third in pole vault with a jump of 7'06"), Bird (third in the high jump with a jump of 5-feet), Emily Born (sixth in discus with a throw of 84 feet), Mishka Monroe (fourth in shot put with a throw of 31'01"), Melana Adams (fifth in pole vault with a jump of 6'06"), Harsy (fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.38 seconds), Lopez (second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 14.27.26), Smith (sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:51.00), Madison Jones (fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.46 seconds) and Baxter (fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.59 seconds). <br />The Lady Indians will resume action at the Fairfield invite Thursday at 4 p.m.
