DMS boys finish first in Class L Regional, girls second
The Du Quoin Middle School boys track team won the SIJHSAA Class L Regional <br />championship Monday afternoon with a team score of 128 points, finishing ahead of second place Waterloo which finished with 90.<br />The Lady Warriors track team finished second in the regional meet with a team score of 103 points, falling behind first-place Waterloo (123). <br />The DMS boys advanced to state in eight different events. <br />Garrett Juhl won the advanced to state in two events, tying for first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.73 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.50 seconds.<br />Wade Roberson and Kelvin Edward were the two other Warriors to qualify for state in individual events, as Roberson finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22 and Edward finished second in the 400-meter run with a time of 56.13. <br />The DMS boys dominated the relays, taking first in the 4x100 (Lane Bauman, Colton Baker, Juhl, Drake Kremer) 4x200 (Bauman, Juhl, Edward and Kremer) and 4x400-meter relays (Baker, Edward, Kremer and Roberson), along with the seventh grade 4x200-meter relay (Tyler Gassel, Elijah Jones, Traijon Smith and Jaden Smith). <br />The DMS Lady Warriors advanced to state in six different events.<br />Aubrey Barwick qualified with a first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 31-07 and a first-place finish in the discus with a throw of 87-02. <br />Delaynie Dearmond also advanced in two events, taking first in the pole vault with a jump of seven feet and finishing third in the 100-meter hurdles with a state-qualifying time of 17.48 seconds. <br />Madeline Robinson qualified for state in the pole vault, finishing second with a jump of six feet. <br />Ayanna Dunklin was the final qualifier for the Lady Warriors, taking second in the seventh-grade 100-meter dash with a time of 14.32 seconds. <br />The Pinckneyville Junior High School boys team finished fourth overall with 77 points and had four state-qualifiers. <br />Ben Restoff qualified in the 400-meter dash, finishing third with a state-qualifying time of 57.27 seconds, along with finishing third in the high jump with a state-qualifying jump of 5-05. <br />Dre Scott advanced and took first in the high jump with a jump of 5-08.<br />David Wagner and Barrett Denny both qualified in the 100-meter hurdles with Denny taking first with a time of 15.37 second and Wagner taking second with a time of 15.53 seconds.
