Mayor to appoint Jamie Ellermeyer Du Quoin's new Chief of Police
Mayor Rex Duncan confirmed late Thursday that he will appoint career police officer and assistant chief Jamie Ellermeyer as the city's new chief of police, effective at the retirement of Chief Michael Ward on Sept. 9.
The Chief of Police position is a mayoral appointment, but it comes with the advice an consent of the city council that met in executive session after this week's meeting.
Ellermeyer has been with the department since June 1997. He has shouldered many roles in the department including officer and lead detective. His promotion to the rank of assistant Chief of Police came after the late James Booker's retirement and the appointment of Ward.
