Lady Indians fall to Nashville
DU QUOIN - Three runs in the seventh inning gave the Nashville Hornettes a 4-2 win over the Du Quoin High School softball team in an SIRR Mississippi Division game Tuesday.
Three straight singles started that rally, which was compounded by a pair of errors and a wild pitch.
In the bottom half, Du Quoin's Chloe Hess and Olivia Whitley both struck out, then Avery Waller and Mackenzie Sizemore both singled but Waller was thrown out at third base to end the game.
The Lady Indians were set down in order by Nashville hurler Kyleigh Guinzy until the sixth inning, when Waller ripped a leadoff triple. Maci McKinnies then singled with an error attached and Morgan Bullar popped an RBI double to give Du Quoin a 2-1 lead.
But everything swung in the seventh.
"We played much better today," said Du Quoin coach Jason James. "We still have to do a better job at the plate in key situations. That is something we will continue to work on."
Du Quoin was slated to play at Carterville on Thursday and travel to Johnston City on Saturday. They'll make a short trip Monday to face Du Quoin for the first time, weather permitting.
