Free shredding of documents 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 22 at Perry County government building south of Pinckneyville

State Rep. Jerry Costello II, D-Smithton, is offering free shredding of sensitive documents to any area residents at a Shred Day event he's hosting with the Perry County Solid Waste and Recycling Company on Saturday, June 22 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Government Building in Pinckneyville, located at 3764 State Route 13/127.

"I encourage anyone who is thinking about spring cleaning to set aside their old tax documents, the credit card applications they got in the mail, or any other papers that show identifying information to be safely shredded at this event," said Costello. "It takes just a few minutes to stop by and drop off these items, but preventing identify theft is worth it."

Every year, thousands of Illinois residents casually throw away printed personal information. Items like bank receipts, prescription receipts, credit card statement and old bills can end up in the wrong hands. At the event, residents will be able to observe the secure disposal of their documents. Shredding services are free of charge and this event is open to the public.
